Position Summary

Research faculty-level position in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Georgia supporting an active interdisciplinary experimental research program spanning quantum materials, nano/quantum-optics, neuromorphic devices, nano/microfluidics, soft materials, polymers, and liquid-phase spectroscopies. We seek a highly motivated experimental scientist with expertise in one or more areas including nano- and microfluidic device design and fabrication, polymer and soft-material synthesis and device integration, liquid-phase optical and vibrational spectroscopy, nano-optical characterization, and functional materials. The successful candidate will conduct high-level experimental research; develop and implement novel experimental platforms integrating fluidics, materials, devices, and spectroscopy; and maintain and operate advanced instrumentation. Research opportunities include liquid-phase nano-optics and spectroscopy, polymer and soft-material devices, ionically and chemically responsive systems, neuromorphic devices, quantum and strongly correlated materials, and van der Waals materials. The Research Scientist will also contribute to the NSF -funded Quantum Networks Training and Research Alliance in the Southeast (QuaNTRASE), participate in research proposals and publications, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

The position is particularly suited for a scientist with strong experimental and technical expertise who can work independently while collaborating with faculty, students, and multidisciplinary research teams. Responsibilities include conducting advanced experiments, maintaining research productivity, supporting specialized instrumentation, coordinating research activities, preparing manuscripts and proposals, and providing technical guidance to students. The position is expected to play an important role in sustaining and expanding UGA's experimental quantum-science program and in strengthening research and student training in emerging quantum and neuromorphic technologies.

Applicants should have a strong record of experimental research and scholarly publications. Demonstrated ability in one or more of the following areas is particularly desirable: nano-optics and near-field optical microscopy, quantum materials, neuromorphic materials and devices, strongly correlated materials, van der Waals materials, optical spectroscopy, or advanced nanoscale characterization. Demonstrated ability operating and developing sophisticated experimental instrumentation and mentoring graduate or undergraduate researchers is also highly desirable.
