In the role of Electron Microscopy Technologist, you will maintain and fulfill service commitments of the core Electron Microscopy Facility which involves handling and processing of specimens, maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies as well as keeping necessary records of clinical and research work. Modifies existing and/or develops new tests and procedures, conducts experimental studies to further research objectives, instructs new users.
Responsibilities:
In order of importance
- Process tissue by accession, dissection, fixation, dehydration, infiltration and polymerization.
- Prepare and examine specimen by semi-thin and ultrathin-sectioning, section staining; viewing and recording digital images of specimens in the electron microscope.
- Ensure the Facility complies with CAP regulations and take the lead role in bi-Annual CAP inspection readiness.
- Prepare solutions and chemicals as required for the effective operation of the EM Facility.
- Laboratory management I: Maintain image databases. Maintain clear records and exact locations of specimens, image files, reports, procedure and quality controls. Ensure correct and timely billing for EM services to Pathology office.
- Laboratory management II: Order supplies; ensure lab safety; organize laboratory; coordinate with department office(s) and Facility Office at MCW.
- Assist director to train and assist independent microscope users.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.
- Bachelor’s Degree – science major
- 6 months (working experience in a histology laboratory and/or an electron microscopy laboratory)
