This includes both phenotyping and mechanistic dissection of adipocytes as well as adipose tissue macrophages. Physiology experiments include adipose tissue metabolic assays such as lipolysis, browning, glucose/insulin signaling, systemic metabolic assays such as weight curves, ITT/GTT, thermogenesis, oxygen consumption, and characterizing of inflammatory cells such as macrophages in adipose tissue during states of obesity and fasting. Standard assays such as qPCR, Western blotting, microscopy, tissue sectioning, colorimetric assays, metabolites quantitation, and metabolomics/transcriptomics will be utilized. Also specialized approaches using Seahorse cellular respirometry will be utilized. The Research Instructor will also direct the Cellular Metabolic Phenotyping core in the Center for Immunometabolism.
Effort Allocation: 100% Research
Minimum Qualifications - PhD in Agricultural Science, Science, or related field. Postdoctoral experience for a minimum of 3 years with Adipose Tissue physiology/pathophysiology.
