The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Research Technician Level 2 to join the Trivedi Institute for Space Biomedicine. The ideal candidate will have experience in Space Biology and Radiation Biology and be enthusiastic about contributing to cutting-edge research in the Space Biomedicine Program.
Department Overview: The Space Biomedicine Program is at the forefront of integrating space biology with advanced biomedical research. Our mission is to develop innovative technologies to safeguard human health in space and translate space research into terrestrial healthcare solutions. We emphasize education and outreach, preparing the next generation of space researchers.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor of Sciences in Biology, with experience in mammalian/human biology
Experience in radiation biology and space biology
Experience in Health Sciences
Experience with microdissection, immunostaining, fluorescent microscopy, DNA/RNA extraction and library preparation for sequencing, and cell culture
Job Summary
Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
Essential Functions
Conduct laboratory experiments including histology, immunostaining, flow cytometry, molecular techniques, gene sequencing, live cell imaging, fluorescent 3D microscopy, cell culture.
Prepare specimens and ensure conformity to specifications.
Manage supply ordering, procurement, tracking, and receiving.
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration, cleaning, and sterility testing.
Ability to participate in manuscript writing and contribute intellectually to experimental designs.
Maintain detailed, accurate, and timely data and lab notebooks, Laboratory information management systems (LIMS), organizing and documenting results.
Physical Effort
Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
