NNL has an opening for an Advanced Material Characterization Scientist. This scientist will be responsible for operating and maintaining a Cameca Local Electrode Atom Probe (LEAP) 5000XR system, and cross training on other advanced characterization tools to support the needs of the Naval Reactors program. Work responsibilities include, and are not limited to:
- Analysis and interpretation of comprehensive atom probe data sets
- Communication of results through both oral presentations and written reports
- Cross training / back-up support on other advanced characterization tools
- Participation in multi-disciplinary investigations with engineers and other material scientists specializing in other complementary analytical techniques (e.g. SEM, EPMA, XRD, XRF, Auger, ESCA, AEM)
- Focused Ion Beam (FIB) and electrolytic sample preparation
- Execution of experiments involving analytical measurements on test specimens
- Radiological and non-radiological work
Preferred skills:
- BS, MS, or PhD in engineering or physical sciences
