About the Role:
We're seeking a highly motivated, creative, and passionate Senior Scientist to join our multidisciplinary team advancing therapeutics for inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. In this role, you will lead the development, optimization, and validation of in vitro functional and translational assays, drive microscopy experiments from execution through interpretation, and collaborate across functions to support downstream analyses from in vivo studies.
What You'll Do:
- Lead cell-based assay development, perform efficacy assessment across primary and follow-up compound screens, and support data-driven decisions for Insmed projects.
- Isolate and culture primary immune cells (neutrophils, hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells, mouse bone-marrow progenitors) and maintain common lines (e.g., Jurkat, THP-1, HL-60, RAW264.7) and other relevant cell lines for in vitro/ex vivo assays.
- Plan and execute experiments using molecular biology techniques, including Western blot, ELISA, Luminex multiplex immunoassays, PCR, and qPCR.
- Perform antibody-based immunostaining, including immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, to detect and localize protein targets in tissue sections and cultured cells.
- Conduct microscopy and analysis in partnership with computational scientists, help transition to a high-throughput, AI-driven workflow.
- Execute multicolor flow cytometry across immune and non-immune cell types, and perform high-purity FACS sorting of rare populations.
- Support downstream analyses from in vivo studies, including sample collection, processing, and ex vivo measurements.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely electronic records of method development, experimental data, analyses, and summaries, and generate internal technical reports as needed.
- Perform data QC and statistical analyses to ensure accuracy, completeness, and validity, using Excel, XLfit, GraphPad Prism, and FlowJo.
- Conduct literature reviews to inform study design and program strategy.
- Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Present scientific results at internal and external meetings as needed.
Who You Are:
- PhD and 5+ years of experience in molecular and cellular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, or related field.
- Must have hands-on experience with cell culture, in vitro assays, and developing/optimizing standard molecular biology assays.
- Must have deep expertise in imaging related techniques such as fluorescent microscopy, confocal microscopy, and high-content imaging system.
- Must have strong expertise in immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining.
- Experience working with downstream sample processing from preclinical animal models is a strong plus.
- Experience handling animals such as dosing, in-life behavior assessment, and lung function measurements is a strong plus.
- Deep knowledge of cell biology, immunology, immune-oncology, or neuroscience/neuronal cell biology is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with microglia/astrocyte co-cultures, neuroinflammation assays, and BBB models is a plus.
- Clear, effective written and verbal communication and strong problem-solving skills are required.
- A high degree of organization and time-management skills, with meticulous attention to detail to ensure clarity, accuracy, and concision, are required.
- A strong sense of enthusiasm and self-motivation is required.
- Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently in a team environment is essential.
