Description
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks a new faculty member in applications ofartificial intelligence and machine learning in polymeric materials through Job Requisition 10004050. This position is part of the RISE-AIcomponent of the Wisconsin Research, Innovation, and Scholarly Excellence (RISE) initiative. The successful candidate will lead aninnovative research program in AI/ML in the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of polymer materials. Areas of interest inpolymer research include but are not limited to AI/ML for predicting polymer properties and de novo polymer design, AI-guided design ofpolymers, AI-based soft-materials design, AI/ML enabled synthesis, and AI-enabled high-throughput characterization. Opportunities include, butare not limited to, polymeric materials relevant to the department’s pillar areas of sustainability, materials for extreme environments,autonomous materials research and additive manufacturing, energy production, conversion, and storage, and information and quantumtechnologies. UW-Madison hosts outstanding research capabilities, including dedicated facilities for soft materials characterization, centralcomputational resources, and instrumentation for microscopy, and optical and electron spectroscopy.
Requirements
Candidates will have a demonstrated record of academic achievement such as peer reviewed publications and grant awards appropriate fortheir career stage, exceptional potential in establishing a world-class research program in artificial intelligence and machine learning combinedwith domain expertise in materials science and engineering, and a commitment to high-quality and inclusive undergraduate and graduateteaching, learning, and mentoring. Assistant Professor candidates will have a PhD and at least 2 years of relevant research experience.Associate and Full Professor candidates must possess experience and scholarly credentials that meet the tenure standards of the UW-Madison Divisional Committee and the College of Engineering.
