Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Microbiologist to join our dynamic team, lead the clinical development of our assays, and grow with the company. As the Principal Scientist, you will play a crucial role in the development of our rapid diagnostic platform. You will work alongside other Scientists and staff from cross-functional teams to develop, validate, and commercialize our diagnostic platform. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in the field of clinical microbiology. The position is located in Durham, NC and will require bench work.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Be proficient in pathogen identification methods, including classical microbiology and molecular methods (i.e. primer design), and in susceptibly testing (i.e. broth microdilution).
Participate in strategic planning and setting goals and milestones.
Provide guidance to the commercial protype development partners.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and act as the primary contact on R&D, engineering, and other laboratory and related regulatory matters.
Conceive, design, and implement experiments, and gather, analyze, and report data.
Oversee laboratory safety, quality control, and regulatory matters related to laboratory activity.
Stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
Supervise the technical training of new staff and student interns.
Participate in test development/validation projects, able to optimize assays and workflows, develop SOP(s) for new procedures/tests.
Interact with prospective grantee, investors, and business partners, including on site and remote meetings, as needed.
This position reports directly to the CEO. The incumbent will assist in further building Advisory and Scientific Boards and will maintain close relationships with the Boards.
Other assigned tasks as required.
Basic Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related field with a focus on clinical microbiology.
Board certification or eligible as a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM), preferred. MSCP(M) certification required for those not D(ABMM).
3+ years of clinical or industry diagnostic experience after completion of post-graduate medical training, including subspecialty medical training.
Expertise in microbial pathogen identification and susceptibility testing methodologies.
Proven experience in leading microbiology teams in diagnostic platform development.
Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools and computational methods to accelerate scientific insight, experimental design, and decision-making.
Strong understanding of regulatory requirements in the diagnostics industry.
Work in a BSL-2 laboratory environment in the presence of chemicals and reagents.
Preferred Qualifications:
Comfortable working in a dynamic and evolving environment.
History of achievement demonstrated by commercial and professional successes, publications, presentations, or other activities.
Work well under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor.
Self-organize and operate effectively without day-to-day oversight, while staying tightly connected to key leaders and teams across the collaborations.
