The Department of Pathology at Dalhousie University in Halifax seeks to recruit an academic Anatomical Pathologist.
This position is for a Pathologist with general anatomical pathology skills, to assist with surgical pathology sign-out in several areas; gastrointestinal and gynecological pathology are areas of significant need. The ability to participate in cytopathology is advantageous. The candidate would be expected to participate in resident training for AP and GP residents, frozen section duty and the autopsy rota (average 1 day/month). Depending on the candidate’s interest and the availability of work, a portion of their time could also be assigned to another division of the Department. Subspecialty training is not necessary.
The successful applicant will join 27 other members of staff in the Division of Anatomical Pathology at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre (QEII HSC).
The QEII HSC, part of the Central Zone of the Nova Scotia Health Authority, is a large tertiary health care institution affiliated with Dalhousie University. It provides a broad range of medical care to patients in the Maritime Provinces and beyond. The Division handles around 50,000 surgical pathology cases, including consultation cases, 40,000 gynecological cytopathology cases, and 9,000 non-gynecological cytopathology cases; and has access to electron microscopy, immunofluorescence and a molecular pathology laboratory.
The position involves clinical service, as well as a commitment to medical education and research. Canadian certification in Anatomical Pathology or General Pathology is a requirement. The successful candidate will be eligible for a faculty position at Dalhousie University commensurate with their experience and qualifications.
