Job Description

NanoSpective is seeking enthusiastic, disciplined, and innovative applicants for the full-time position of transmission electron microscopist. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth theoretical and practical understanding of structure-property-processing relationships and how TEM instrumentation and techniques are used to address a diverse spectrum of applications involving materials systems & microtechnologies ranging from metals to composites, IC’s to imagers, to MEMS, photonics, RF, and more. The position is well suited for a professional that can communicate with the client and work with the NanoSpective technical staff to enable impeccable execution.


Key Responsibilities

If selected, you will join the NanoSpective team as a Member of Technical Staff working within a rigorous culture in a fast-paced setting providing characterization and custom analytical services that help our clients. Example of duties include but are not limited to:

  • Operation of TEM including conventional, scanning, aberration corrected, monochromated and analytical instruments.
    • Routine alignment, tuning, parametric optimization, and troubleshooting. More advanced troubleshooting, alignment and configuration procedures may be required
    • Travel to analytical facilities outside of the Orlando area may be required
  • Design testing protocols & experiments based on objective, timeline and relevant supporting information for each request. Generally, requires client consultation and literature search
  • Create & execute/manage project plans that define a set of required actions to meet an objective
  • Acquisition, analysis and organization of data to produce client deliverables that clearly and effectively communicate observations and results
  • Post analysis consultation with clients
  • Preparation of specimens for TEM analysis
  • Potential operation of light optical, scanning electron and focused ion beam microscopes as well as other analytical instrumentation
  • Development & documentation of novel techniques
  • Development of analytical, training, and operational plans and team leadership
  • Remaining current with and contributing to the scientific literature
  • Volunteer and outreach opportunities as available


Requirements

Required Qualifications/Experience

  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience in materials science, physics, chemistry, or related discipline
  • Strong foundational knowledge of materials science and advanced materials characterization techniques, e.g., optical, electron and ion microscopies, and spectroscopic techniques
  • High level expertise with (S)TEM imaging (multiple modes), microanalysis (EDX and EELS), diffraction, operation of aberration corrected and monochromated instruments
  • Significant experience with TEM specimen preparation techniques, e.g., focused ion beam, mechanical sectioning, polishing, ion milling, microtome, etc.
  • Experience with image processing & data analysis routines & related software e.g., Digital Micrograph, Velox, ES Vision, Adobe Photoshop, Excel, MATLAB, OriginPro, etc.
  • Familiarity with microelectronic and photonic devices. Ability to evaluate basic layout to determine optimal strategy for sectioning and target specimen sites
  • Digital literacy across various platforms
  • High level of technical document writing competency


Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience in scripting/programming, e.g., Python, Matlab, C++, etc. for data processing
  • Experience with machine learning techniques
