Description
Bryant University’s College of Health and Behavioral Sciences seeks a tenure-track faculty member with expertise in human biology, physiology, or the cellular and molecular mechanisms of human health and disease, and a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and student mentorship.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will contribute to our growing programs in biology and health sciences, with primary teaching responsibilities in Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II, including lecture and laboratory instruction. Additional teaching opportunities include introductory biology, cellular and molecular biology, organismal biology, human health and disease, and research methods in health sciences, depending on expertise and departmental needs.
We seek an educator-scholar who connects foundational science to human health and professional practice, and engages students through applied learning and undergraduate research. The ideal candidate will develop a research program that complements our existing strengths in bacteriology, chemical biology, exercise physiology, AI, and biomedical sciences and draws on our shared analytical core facility, which includes mass spectrometry, chromatography, and new NIH-funded tissue culture and microscopy facilities.
Bryant is recognized as a top 1 percent national leader in student education outcomes and ROI and regularly receives high rankings from U.S. News and World Report, QS Stars, Money, Bloomberg Businessweek, Wall Street Journal, and College Factual. Bryant’s strategic plan, Vision 2030, redefines higher education through a commitment to providing students with a transformational learning experience. Vision 2030 accelerates advancements in academic innovation, experiential learning, vibrant student life, Division I athletics, and a connected community that fosters belonging and success.
Research Expectations
Bryant University values faculty scholarship that involves undergraduate students. The successful candidate’s research should:
- Focus on cellular, molecular, or physiological mechanisms of human health and disease. Research integrating AI to advance understanding of human health and disease is preferred.
- Develop a biomedical research program that advances understanding of human health and disease and aligns with RI-INBRE’s mission to strengthen biomedical research capacity and student research training.
- Utilize shared analytical equipment and foster collaboration with existing faculty.
- Engage undergraduate researchers in meaningful, accessible research experiences, and serve as a mentor for students interested in health-related careers, both clinical and non-clinical.
RI-INBRE PUI Faculty Scholar
The successful candidate may be considered for designation as an RI-INBRE PUI Faculty Scholar, a program designed to recruit and support early-career investigators who bring new biomedical research expertise to primarily undergraduate institutions and Rhode Island. Designation is subject to RI-INBRE review and approval of the candidate’s research program. RI-INBRE PUI Faculty Scholars are eligible to apply for supplemental research funding to support laboratory establishment and the development of their research program and have full access to the RI-INBRE Centralized Research Core Facility. For more information about RI-INBRE see https://web.uri.edu/riinbre/.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in physiology, anatomy, biology, biomedical sciences, microbiology, cell biology, molecular biology, neuroscience, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated preparation to teach the full Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II sequence, including human anatomy, organ systems physiology, and associated laboratories.
- Research background in cellular, molecular, or physiological mechanisms of human health and disease.
- Demonstrated success with integration of AI into teaching and/or research.
- Commitment to undergraduate teaching, student mentorship, and the development of experiential learning opportunities.
- Evidence of potential for scholarly productivity involving undergraduate students.
Application Materials:
Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research statement, teaching evaluations (if available), and contact information for two references. The teaching statement should describe the applicant’s preparation to teach Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II, including laboratory instruction, and how they integrate or plan to integrate AI and experiential learning into their teaching to strengthen students’ understanding and application of scientific concepts. The research statement should describe a proposed research program and opportunities for meaningful undergraduate participation.
