The Venosa Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at the University of Utah, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position. The group is embarking in a NIEHS funded multidisciplinary project examining epithelial-immune crosstalk in acute lung injury and fibrosis. Two aspects of research are currently of interest:
1) The impact of epithelial dysfunction (mutations) and preexisting conditions on inflammatory responses and lung injury during exposure to air pollution (ozone, particulate matter, smoke).
2) Deviation in canonical inflammatory responses to air-pollution exposure dependent on aging

For these studies we leverage a combination of lineage trace strains and a novel murine model of lung injury driven by a disease-linked mutation in the Surfactant Protein-C gene (additional information on the model please available here;

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to select the project based on their expertise and research interests (immunological networks, molecular biology, aging, transcriptomics/proteomics). The ideal candidate will have a Pharm.D. and/or Ph.D. with training in toxicology, immunology and/or lung biology. The candidate will be expected to independently develop and carry out the project, lead efforts in crafting and revising research manuscript, as well as provide day-to-day mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory. As a complement to these duties, the laboratory offers the liberty to develop side-projects, especially if they complement the current lines of research.

About the University: The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Utah is committed to excellence in basic and translational research through intra- and interdepartmental collaborations (i.e., Department of Pathology; Division of Geriatrics; Division of Respiratory and Critical Care; and Occupational Pulmonary Medicine). The Venosa laboratory is housed on the 3rd floor of the Skaggs College of Pharmacy, a new research space completed in 2016. State-of-the-art Core facilities in Flow cytometry, Cells Imaging, Stem Cell Biology, Metabolomics, Microscopy and Bioinformatics are present to support all basic and translational research needs.
